Aleksey Semenenko
Biography
Since winning the Young Concert Artists Auditions in 2012 in New York, Aleksey Semenenko has been recognized as part of the international elite of violinists. His active concert schedule as a soloist and chamber musician regularly brings him to performances across Europe, the USA, and Asia.
Significant achievements in his career include winning 2nd Prize at the Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2015 in Brussels and 1st Prize at the International Boris Goldstein Violin Competition in Bern. Additionally, he was honored as "Artist of the Month" by Musical America Worldwide.
Aleksey Semenenko has collaborated with renowned orchestras such as the Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, the Essen Philharmonic, and the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed at prestigious festivals, including the Usedom Music Festival, the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival, the Edinburgh Festival, and the Dubrovnik Summer Festival.
In 2017, Aleksey Semenenko was selected for the prestigious “New Generation Artists” program by BBC Radio 3, which led to numerous engagements with BBC orchestras and festival appearances across the UK. One of his recent highlights is the recording of Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra in Manchester.
Beyond his artistic career, he is the co-founder and organizer of the Odesa Violin Competition, which he established alongside violinist Andrii Murza to support young talents and promote the musical culture of his hometown, Odesa.
Aleksey Semenenko completed his Konzertexamen studies with Zakhar Bron in Cologne and also graduated in chamber music under Prof. Harald Schoneweg, both at the Cologne University of Music.
As of October 2021, Aleksey Semenenko has been appointed Professor of Violin at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.
